Visual and Literary Arts (Comics)

Students will explore their family story and their sense of belonging in Quebec as an English-speaker through comic book creation. In the first session they will watch some short scenes from a documentary where a diverse group of Quebecers share experiences. Participants will also begin to think about their own family’s story and how it might be represented in a comic book. In the second session they will use comic book techniques to connect their family stories to their own sense of identity. Students will create a mini-comic on a regular piece of paper with a regular pencil. The session will be about creating the images that complete the comic.

Materials: paper, mark-maker (pencil, pen, or other)
