INSPIRING THE ART OF PHOTOGRAPHY: CAPTURING WHAT THE HEART FEELS THROUGH THE MIND’S EYE with Kathleen Walsh-Moleski (Regional Artist: ESSB)
A picture “may be worth a thousand words,” but does it evoke any feeling? Various elements of photo
composition are used to capture what the heart feels through the mind’s eye, with the objective that observers
of a photo will feel as the photographer felt for the subject. Using photo examples, the artist will describe one
of the emotional elements of photo composition. Students will spend 10 minutes taking photos in the
classroom with this element in mind. Then, students and the teacher select two or three of the best photos to
display on-screen for critique by the artist, to see if they reflect the students’ intended effect.
