The workshop consists of a brief introduction to the Wixárika people, living in their ancestral territory of Mexico’s Sierra Madre Occidental region, and how through yarn paintings, derived from their ceremonial system called Niérika, they tell their stories and myths. The first day we present a narration of their legend concerning the creation of the sun and show some examples of yarn paintings inspired by it. The participants will then be invited to design their own interpretation of the legend. The second day we ask the children to create their yarn painting on a piece of cardboard. After concluding their creation, we will invite the participants to share their impressions on the process.
