THE POP-UP LAB with Kate Battle

Make paper come alive! With basic materials and a few simple techniques students transform a sheet of paper
into a 3D creation: a spaceship, a castle, a ladybug, a heart, a dinosaur, whatever you like. Pop-ups can easily
be linked to a theme you are exploring in class: social issues, a biography, an animal, a period in history, a
special day. Glue a few pop-ups together, add some text, and you have a little pop-up book! The level of
difficulty is adapted for each grade level and each pop-up structure is explained through a short participatory
story.
Themes: Other than Arts, the workshop incorporates elements of STEAM. This workshop provides an opportunity for discussion about belonging in Quebec in the general sense and as a member of the LGBTQ2S+ community.

Materials: Markers or coloured pencils, scissors, glue stick, construction paper. Paper for the pop-ups supplied
by me.

Grade Levels: Kindergarten, Elementary Cycle 1, 2, 3
