Artist Maggie Winston created puppets with students at Coronation Elementary School this winter.  Through the medium of puppetry arts, Maggie facilitates creative processes with an emphasis on inclusion and imagination. Puppetry includes all the art forms: theatre, performance, writing/storytelling, visual arts, music, and choreography, and the students were introduced to the full artform.

Grade 3 and 4 students had the opportunity to build and learn about four different kinds of puppets.  They collaborated with classmates to create short puppet presentations with their creations. The school’s Robotics Club also had the opportunity to engage with Maggie to learn about puppets and incorporate puppet storytelling with robot design! The school expressed their appreciation of Maggie’s commitment and focus, and her willingness to experiment, explore and follow the passions of the students.

Coronation Elementary School’s ArtistsInspire Grant experience was made possible by an ELAN Quebec/LEARNpartnership for students from Quebec’s English-speaking communities to participate in arts and culture experiences, thanks in part to funding from Heritage Canada through the  Government of Canada.
