I am a poet and interdisciplinary artist who loves teaching about writing style, technique, and craft! I have worked as an independent spoken word poet for over ten years and there is nothing that I love more than sharing the world of spoken word poetry with others. In your classroom, I hope to show students that writing is a way to bring their personal narrative to fruition. I teach spoken word poetry as a tool to build confidence, self-esteem, and bravery in young people.

Creative Approach and Experiences Offered

In my workshops, I aim to give students a space to speak and write about issues that they may not be able to explore in their day-to-day life such as identity, belonging, and what makes them feel confident in themselves.

One workshop that I enjoy doing with students is based in writing about what parts of themselves they find joy in and celebrate. I encourage students to explore the use of metaphors and similes to describe their understanding of themselves and their personal narrative. We also explore the process of editing and refining work before presenting it. This workshop culminates in a student-curated "poetry open mic" in which students can share the spoken word poems that they have created with their peers.
