I am a second generation Canadian folk, roots and soul singer. My focus has been on musical performance and songwriting for over 20 years. For the last 8 years, I have been a music specialist for children. I explore social justice themes through the composition, creation and performance of songs inspired by counter-narratives found in picture books and personal stories that challenge ideas embedded in us at such a young age. Storytelling is key. Let's listen to the voices of many and sing!

Creative Approach and Experiences Offered

The workshops explore the tradition of children’s music through singing and songwriting. My workshops are flexible and adjust to the ages of the students. As a primary activity, I compose, create and produce songs with the students inspired by their own experiences in relation to social justice themes such as anti-racism, equality, inclusion, empathy, sexism, mental and physical health difference, climate change & the environment, representation and indigenous history. For younger students, the narratives found in picture books written and illustrated by BIPOC artists or featuring BIPOC protagonists are also a source of songwriting inspiration. For early childhood education, I focus on songs' melody and rhythm while exploring social justice themes through picture books and original music. By introducing diverse experiences, views and stories in songwriting and performance, we can open our eyes to worlds that are often overlooked and ignored by many.
