A ten year veteran of the comic industry, Jay brings his love of comics and art to your students. With the career goal of "make cool stuff with my friends", he brings the same energy to the class room, and is more than willing to help students "grow flowers where they thought they could only grow weeds." Helping people find their own creative voice and direction has been a long running passion of Jay's, and working with students helps facilitate that.

Creative Approach and Experiences Offered

I have been studying comics since 1998, writing for online magazines and blogs, and I have been making my own since 2013, and have been full time since 2016.

Workshops are accessible & adaptable.

BEGINNER COMICS
Students create a 4-8 page comic from start to finish. They will fill those pages with their own story using words and pictures. In the process, they learn about storytelling, the mechanics and language of comics, and comic creation on a professional level.

ADVANCED COMICS
Students create an 8 page comic. Using words and Pictures they will tell their story. They will explore the steps and methods for comic creation, artistic collaboration, learn some of the comic-specific visual language and story mechanics that will help them have clear communication, and discover what it's like to have a career as a professional comic creator
