I am a multi-instrumentalist performer, educator, and improviser. I am rooted in early European music, with a specialization on recorders and other historical wind instruments, the world of modal improvisation through classical North Indian ragas, and in the joyful complexity of Brazilian percussion. For 8 years, I toured as a musician with the Cirque du Soleil show Totem. I have taught students of all ages, from early childhood and family music, to specialized courses for semi-professionals.

Creative Approach and Experiences Offered

The Recorder Spectrum. A broadening of the historical perspective and the creative possibilities on the instrument for students who are already learning the instrument (grade 3 and up, can be adjusted for younger ages). Showcasing of the full recorder family across the historical time periods, practical work on technical aspects on the instrument, including models for elemental improvisation.

Musical Time Travel: introduction to historical repertoire of Medieval and Renaissance Europe, including: modes, inventions of music staff, and origins of Western notation.

Plankton or Current? An approach to improvisatory sound games, cultivating collective awareness of each person's role in the group, and the creative power of sharing in improvisation.

At the heart of it all: music as relationship. Awareness of how soundscapes shape our sense of creative and musical selves. The expressive spectrum from exhilarating, joyful release to nurturing a tender, quiet realm.
