WHIMSICAL SELF-PORTRAIT with Holly MacKinnon
Inspired by artists like Frida Kahlo and Vincent van Gogh, students will learn about self-portraits and the many forms they can take. Using a simple printing method, they will create a self-portrait drawing on a foam sheet that can be printed in ink. This could be an animal, an imaginary creature, a symbol, or an actual representation of themselves. Then they will create a design to frame the image using collage and oil pastel. The workshop focuses on symbolism and self-expression so that each student can choose imagery that feels most authentic to them.
Materials: paper, pencil, foam sheet, printmaking materials (inks, rollers & trays to share), coloured paper scraps, oil pastel, scissors, glue.
