FEELING YOUR WAY INTO FICTION with Catherine Austen
In this prompt-based writing workshop, students will draft several freewrites, then scour them for a nugget of genius to expand into a story. Mini-lessons begin with one real-life emotion plus one literary element (fear and setting; yearning and character; regret and point of view), followed by writing exercises that lead students away from reality into fictions with power and meaning. For teen writers of all genres and levels of experience. This can be the first in a series of workshops to expand the prompt work into a polished story.
