MERRY CHRISTMAS BUNNY – VIDEO STORYTELLING ADVENTURE with Sam Asmar
CREATE YOUR OWN STORY VIDEO Inspired by Sam Asmar’s super fun Merry Christmas Bunny universe, students work in small production teams to create their own short story videos. Beginning with a lively introduction to Sheldon K. Rabbit’s world, students invent original characters and develop simple storylines using the essential elements of storytelling: character, setting, conflict and resolution.
Each student contributes to the creative process through roles such as:
• Story writer
• Actor or narrator
• Director
• Camera operator
• Prop or visual designer
• Video editor
With age-appropriate guidance, teams plan, film and assemble their stories into short videos. The workshop series develops creativity, communication, collaboration, media literacy and confidence while giving students the experience of bringing an original idea to the screen. Completed videos will be shared through a classroom screening at the conclusion of the workshop series.
WORKSHOP SERIES + ONE-DAY LIVE EVENT AND VIDEO SHOWCASE
Schools may expand the workshop series with a special one-day Merry Christmas Bunny event celebrating the students’ completed video projects. The culminating event combines Sam Asmar’s lively Merry Christmas Bunny interactive reading show, colourful visuals, humour and audience participation with a premiere screening of the videos created by student teams. Students experience the excitement of seeing their work projected for an audience and being recognized as writers, performers and young media creators. The result is more than a workshop or author visit- it is a collaborative storytelling and filmmaking experience that leads to a memorable school-wide celebration.
