LET’S WRITE A BOOK with Lydia Lukidis
In this hands-on workshop, students work with award winning children’s author Lydia Lukidis to create their very own picture book from idea to finished product. Lydia guides students through the fundamentals of picture book storytelling as they collaborate to develop the story’s characters, setting, plot, and narrative structure. Together, they brainstorm ideas, create character sketches, shape the storyline, and bring their story to life. Students then work on the writing, revision, and illustrations, learning how words and pictures work together to tell a compelling story. Every student has the opportunity to contribute their creativity to the finished book. Once the manuscript and illustrations are complete, Lydia will arrange the book’s graphic layout and have it professionally printed and bound. The finished picture book will be mailed to the school, giving students a tangible keepsake of the story they created together. The result: a unique, student-created picture book that the entire class can be proud of!
