I'm an artist & writer working with kids on projects that push their concept of what "making art" means. In the "Let's Draw our Emotions!" workshop we look at our faces in their different emotive expressions, drawing them in their simplest forms. In the storytelling workshop. My latest most popular workshop is zine-making, where participants learn how to make zines about themes they are passionate about using collage, illustration and handmade font. Community is a recurring theme in my workshops.
Creative Approach and Experiences Offered
Let’s make a Zine! Zines have been around for decades and are a fun, accessible (and addictive!) way of telling a short story, conveying a strong message for something you believe in, or making fan art! I bring in lots of cool magazines to cut up for inspiration, and for those who’d rather draw we have markets, pencils and crayons. Most of the time, teachers, parents and grandparents join in! Kids will learn how to make a tiny book simply by folding an 8.5 x 11 paper - fun!Making Faces: In this fun, dynamic workshop, the kids and I enjoy making faces and taking some time to really look at our faces and their lines. What happens when we make a scared face? What lines do we notice in a joyful expression? Using these new tools, the kids can now draw out emotions by examining their own faces. Kids develop skills for self-expression & empathy as young artists & storytellers. This class has been given to thousands of kids across the province (and country!) and is my most popular by far.
