I was 10 when I signed up for lunchtime art with a local artist. I got my first ever box of oil pastels arranged in rainbow order. The artist set up a still life of pumpkins and gourds. We were shown how to layer colours and to blend. So creamy, it was like drawing with butter or melting chocolate. I was hooked! I drew in that sketchbook night and day until it was full and saw myself as an artist. When I do art with children, I always think of my 10 year old self discovering pastel drawing.
