SEA SHANTIES with Kate Bevan-Baker

Initially work songs, sea shanties were sung for the purpose of accompanying a job on a ship; today, shanties are a wonderful tool for teaching music and allowing everyone to participate, regardless of musical background or ability. In the sea shanty workshop, students will work together to choose a theme and write the lyrics and melody for a sea shanty. At the end of the workshop, we will sing the shanty all together and create a recording. No musical experience is necessary for this workshop.
