CANADIAN FIDDLING TRADITIONS with Kate Bevan-Baker
Initially an oral tradition passed from generation to generation and not written down, fiddling is an excellent way for students to listen to and absorb this unique musical tradition that is meant to accompany dancing and provide entertainment. I will demonstrate and explain different types of fiddle tunes and their structures, and students will become involved in creating their own fiddle tune in collaboration with me. Focusing on call-and-response elements, I ensure students are directly involved in the creative process of inventing a fiddle tune by introducing elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and dynamics and tempo. No musical experience is necessary for this workshop.
