My life has been shaped by two passions: teaching and photography. From 1973 -2005 I taught Moral and Religious Education using active experiential learning activities. Following retirement in 2005 I began a second career as a fine art photographer. In 2019 I created Discovering the I Behind Your Eye, that showed students how to use photos to enhance personal insight. Having taught this course for over 3 years, and grades 7-11, I am ready and eager to share my twin passions with your students
Creative Approach and Experiences Offered
Competencies developed in Discovering the I Behind your Eye• Attention and Concentration - Rather than seeking something specific to photograph they learn the art of seeing, paying attention to whatever is grabbing their eyes
• Verbal competency Describing their photo develops descriptive vocabulary
• Emotional Literacy - Sharing how the photo makes them feel develops emotional vocabulary. Emotionally rich images give visual form to nebulous feelings
• Accurate Listening and Clear Feedback – Jotting down their partner's exact words develops accurate listening. Learning how to give non judgmental feedback leads to improved communication
• Written competency – Free style journal writing enables them to access deeper emotions
• Insight and Personal Growth - The entire process leads to greater awareness of the inner forces that are affecting them
• Discovering a Creative Medium for Personal Expression - Photography can become a lifelong way of of connecting with nature and oneself
