Chris Robertson is a Japanese-Canadian printmaker and educator based in Montreal. Establishing his print shop, Lost Cat Press as an established screen printer for both visual artists and musicians has allowed him the freedom to create his own work, free from the creative restriction of needing to sell it. Instead he has dedicated his art and time to not only telling his own story and sharing the ideas that are important to him, but also to empower youth, through all mediums, to share their story

Creative Approach and Experiences Offered

The goal in all of my workshops is one of self-reflection and the response to that is the art. Younger students a guiding question would center, where do you feel good or safe? This is depicted with a two colour screen print, a landscape where students will print a background of a sunset gradient, collectively mind map the guiding question to arrive at an answer, then create a foreground using silhouettes which will be printed in black. This uses the stencil technique with mac-tac to apply to the screen for printing. This landscape could be real or imagined. For Sec 1 or 2 it would be what is an important part of you? with the ultimate goal of creating a simple 1-3 colour print for a t-shirt, using mac-tac stencils to screen print the result of the collective mind map of the guiding question. For older students, the question is: If you could change or not change something in your community, what would it be? This would be a longer more open project to ultimately screen print a poster.
