Cecil Castellucci is an award winning author of novels, comic books and opera librettos. She creates her own stories such as Shifting Earth, The Plain Janes, Soupy Leaves Home and The Year of the Beasts as well as working on popular licensed titles such as Batgirl, Star Wars, Disney Princesses and Critical Role. She is interested in hybrid storytelling and intersecting media and was recently was awarded a Fulbright to investigate mixing comics, performance and new technologies.
Creative Approach and Experiences Offered
Cecil Castellucci has been a 21-year volunteer at Mayberry Elementary School in Los Angeles doing read aloud and literacy with 1st and 3rd graders. They have been doing school visits with K-12 to support her children’s and young adult novels and comics in the US and Canada for over 18 years. They took part of the Canadian Children’s Book Week in 2021. She has been guest faculty at the Animation Workshop Graphic Storytelling Program in Viborg, Denmark for the past 6 years. She is often a lecturer at various Literary MFA programs. She has done many library workshops for the public. She has also taught some private writing workshops. She believes in a gentle and encouraging approach to coaxing story out of students. She is of the opinion that everyone has a story to tell, and the first step is finding their voice. She is comfortable speaking and teaching to all ages from 5 – 105.Video
