WRITING TO THE RHYTHM with Raquel Rivera

We all have an ear for good writing. In this workshop students explore the underlying rhythms of language, while gaining confidence in their innate ability to express themselves with words—written and spoken. We explore published writings and spoken word by youth, listen to Inuit ajaja songs, sound poetry, and other poem-songs. Students will use percussion techniques to launch written and spoken works of their own. In the end, students will have a new understanding of their own literary skills, for empowerment in all forms of written and spoken self-expression.
