THE MAGIC OF OWLS with Lisa Kimberly Glickman

Using acrylic paint and fabric scraps, participants will visually interpret these Forest Ambassadors. A PowerPoint overview of owls in art will be presented. A discussion of the mystery and power of owls, and their specific talents will be discussed as a group. Physical examples of the artist’s own work will be passed around. Photographs of various Canadian owls will be provided for reference. We will start with a brief lesson in copying from a photo, practicing on paper. The participants will then work in paint to create the owl and background on a hard surface such as Masonite or canvas board. Then an array of textures and colours of upcycled textile scraps will be provided. Scissors and white glue will be used to cut and arrange the layers to be added to the original painting. This mimics the way the teaching artist herself creates work.
