GIANT PUPPETRY with Daniel Hickie
Giant puppetry is an artform that brings together constructions skills with sculptural work with team work and storytelling. It requires problem solving and collaboration, imagination and playfulness. In this project, students will build a giant puppet together. Students will design the character they wish to construct, work together to build its various features and, finally, bring the puppet to life for telling a story.
Themes: The workshop has some clear elements of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts obviously…, and Mathematics)
Materials: – Papier Mache for Head Sculpting
– Wooden Sticks and Sheet Metal for internal structures
– Foam for hands and features
– Misc Fabric for clothes
Grade Levels: Secondary Grades 7-11
