Laura dedicates her practice in ceramics to artistic creation, education and providing organizational support to artists working in clay. In 2021 she founded atelier clé, a collective ceramics studio, offering membership and classes for all ages and skill levels. As of 2025 it has become a cooperatively governed non-profit fostering meaningful connections through clay, building inclusivity and dismantling class barriers by sharing the medium with new generations and underrepresented communities.
Creative Approach and Experiences Offered
Working in clay requires me to be present in the moment. It is immersive, the material has a limited workable window after which no further alterations can be made without fully recycling the clay and starting over. Once the work is fired, the moment of creation and the gesture of the artist are preserved, with the potential to exist millennia into the future.
New Workshop!
VIA - Very Important Animals
Participants choose a regional wild animal they look up to and the traits that make them admirable. They are then given the assignment to design a platform imbued both figuratively and symbolically with the traits and values they see in their chosen animal. After being led through the handbuilding techniques required, they will mass out their work in soft clay and carve in the detail on the second day. The pieces are fired and returned to the group to be decorated in a range of colourful glazes for the one day event.
