MODELING MEMORY with Liana Cusmano
This workshop opens with the reminder that anyone can write and perform spoken word — as long as a person writes about their feelings in as true and creative a form as they can, then they are a spoken word poet. Participants in this workshop will use their personal memories and recollections to write their pieces. The process begins with a general discussion of experiences that have marked us, followed by writing prompts that help participants build towards a finished piece. Participants will be guided in using their five senses to write their poems, as well as which literary devices might best help them express what they feel. Form, structure and punctuation can also be used in unique ways to express an idea or theme in an original way. At the end of the workshop, participants will be guided through exercises that encourage them to use their bodies, gestures, and voices in unique ways to truly inhabit their piece as they perform it.
Themes: This workshop provides an opportunity for discussion about belonging in Quebec as a member of the LGBTQ2S+ community.
