Puppeteer and theatre artist Maggie Winston visited St. Gabriel Elementary School to facilitate a puppetry project over the course of several visits. Maggie led the grade 4 students in writing an original short play, and then explored puppet movement and design. Each student created their own unique puppet to be used as part of presenting their class play to the rest of the school.

Teacher Naomi Aldrich said of the experience, “When I observe the students during Maggie’s workshops, I see a lot of excitement and enthusiasm, which is exactly what I was hoping for with this project. As a teacher, I’ve left each workshop feeling like I’ve learned something new and valuable.”

St. Gabriel Elementary School’s ArtistsInspire Grant experience was made possible by an ELAN Quebec/LEARN partnership for students from Quebec’s English-speaking communities to participate in arts and culture experiences, thanks in part to funding from the Government of Canada.
