The Great Summer Haiku Contest for Kids

First Prize: $100
Write a summer haiku about your neighbourhood and you might win a prize and get your poem published in Canada’s national haiku journal! In our first session, award-winning poet Angela Leuck will teach you the 6 easy rules for writing the world’s shortest poem—haiku—along with lots of examples to get you started. Then, you are invited to email your best haiku to Angela before the second session, during which the winning poems will be announced and discussed. Whether it’s about fireflies or french fries, beaches or balconies, we’re really looking forward to your haiku.

Age Group: 10 and up
Materials: Pencil, small writing journal to fit in your pocket
