Magical Garden – Visual Arts

5 – 8 years old
Part 1: Monday April 25, 1 – 2 pm
Part 2: Monday May 2, 1 – 2 pm

Using drawing and painting, students will make images of their own imaginary gardens. Working with line, texture and color, they will learn about plants and flowers that grow in Quebec. They will combine this knowledge with their own invented flora to make a space that celebrates the natural world. These sessions draw upon the power of art to activate imagination and agency. Students will look at images from nature and art history for inspiration, there will be demos and lots of time for hands’ on exercises with feedback.

Materials: Pencil, eraser, paper (photocopy paper and if possible a heavier paper for painting), paint (watercolor, tempera or acrylic), brushes (small and medium sizes), water container (if you don’t have paint, colored paper and glue could substitute), ​​broomstick (or any long stick), thick marker, tape
