For award-winning roots artist Rob Lutes, there are no hard and fast rules for songwriting. We learn this craft, like many others, by doing, exploring our own musical tastes and drawing on our years of listening to create something that is uniquely ours. That said, there are some helpful tips for getting the most out of our writing time and our songs. And more importantly, there are some very useful techniques for accessing the “creative spirit” and getting down to writing. In these two workshops, we will hear some stories of songwriters creating new songs, and explore the creative process through two songwriting activities. Participants can keep writing and editing their work after the workshops, and Rob will provide feedback by email to help bring the songs to completion. It’s great if you play an instrument but it is not a requirement for participation in these workshops.
