Description: Students will create an 8-page ‘zine (mini comic) from one piece of paper. They will fill those pages by telling a story using drawings and/or words. During the process, they will explore different facets of wellness (physical and mental health, community and relationships, environment, etc.), learn some comic-specific visual language that will help them communicate clearly, and explore what it is like to have a career as a professional comic artist.
Materials: 5 sheets of white computer paper and a pencil
Artist Bio: Laurence Dea Dionne is a comic artist and art educator from Montreal. Equipped with a bachelor’s degree in art education from Concordia University, Laurence’s teaching and published works (e.g. Nuances, Zen & the Ephemeral, and Homeward written by author Francis McNamee) promote wellness, notably mental health and gender identity.
