Event Details

9 – 14+

Part 1: Friday November 11, 2:30 – 3:45 pm
Part 2: Friday November 18, 2:30 – 3:45 pm

Biophilia means a love of life and living things.
Claymation means animating ‘clay’ sculptures.

In this workshop students will build puppets that can move and hold poses. We will use things found in nature to create them and their BIOPHILIC Worlds (spaces that use Natural lighting, have green walls or living plants, have presence of water etc.). Based on the theme that we ARE nature, we will explore nature as a place for settings (micro and macro) and also the basics of good character design. During Part 1, students will build their own 3D stop motion puppets that are hybrids of human/animal. They will also create the set for their characters (based on nature i.e. inside a tree or seed pod or…). During Part 2, depending on timing and skill – they will learn the basics of animation and stop motion using a free stop motion app. Or they will do a live puppet style storytelling with their puppets.

Materials: Pipe cleaners, clay (plasticine), found objects from nature (ie:leaves, feathers, moss, sticks), cardboard box (to build your world in), plastic containers to hold water…

Tools: scissors, toothpicks, popsicle sticks, small knife, spoon or forks, (or any clay tools if you happen to have some), computer, tablet or phone with camera, flashlight , or any battery operated lights, or lamps
