Description: So much information about the world is coming at us through screens. How do we make sense of what’s going on around us? In this workshop, combining current news and visual art, participants try to make sense of the barrage of media that is coming at us at lightning speed. Participants will make collages or assemblages (3D versions of collages) using available materials (e.g. found objects, recycled household items, and personal objects).

Materials: Whatever you can find that grabs you. This list could be much longer… bring what you like and we will play with it. Look in the recycling bin, deep in your cupboards and in the back of drawers. Here are some examples: Supports – Any kind of container (e.g. boxes, tubes, cardboard, cake pan, canvas on stretcher, picture frame, drawer, small stiff suitcases like the old cardboard kind). Inside – Any objects that inspire you (e.g. fabric, old clothes, sheets, fake fur, felt, metal, wood, plywood, paint, crayons, paper, printed materials, magazines, books, photos, printouts, wrapping paper, greeting cards, product labels, packaging, any images, any printed or written words). Connective materials – Glue, (can be white glue), podge, acrylic polymer medium, brushes, pins, scissors, tape, any wrapping material (e.g. plastic wrap), any sticky stuff (plaster, modeling dough).
