Salima Punjani is a multisensory artist based in Montreal, Canada. She is particularly interested in creating artful experiences of empathy and connection through the senses as well as structuring care and rest into creative projects. In schools, she is excited to expand the sensory possibilities of listening through vibrational technology as well as support students in exploring questions around belonging through participatory multimedia storytelling projects using video and photography.

Creative Approach and Experiences Offered

Sensory listening workshop: In this workshop participants will be invited to collect sounds around a theme such as comfort, belonging, relief. Then, using vibrotactile pillows that translate sonic energy into vibrations that I provide - we will listen to the collective playlist, and feel the sounds collected by through vibrations. It's possible to edit different sounds together into soundscapes if that interests the group.

Filmmaking focused on belonging using multimedia storytelling: Participants will be invited to collect sound, videos and photos of environments, people, places, things that symbolize belonging for them and record audio that describes why. We will create a short film that ties all the individual stories into a collective piece. I am also particularly interested in challenging participants to think about accessibility in filmmaking, so we will make audio described and captioned versions.
