Hi I'm Miranda, a radio and sound artist! I have a background in theatre, vocal music, and sound recording/ editing.

I love to teach young people how to create radio broadcasts. Together, we learn about interviewing, field recording, sound design and more!

In 2022, I led a version of my radio workshop for 9-14 year olds (with ELAN's Homeschooling Workshop series) and 15-16 year olds (with Montreal Relève).

Creative Approach and Experiences Offered

Making Radio

We will explore recording and editing content for a radio broadcast.

Students will:
- participate in listening and singing/sounding exercises
- discuss best practices for interviewing, and practice interview one another
- record found sounds, either within the school/classroom, or outdoors if possible
- learn about sound design and soundscapes
- practice editing in Audacity (a free, open-source editing software)*

Each workshop ends with a broadcast (live or pre-recorded) to share students' work, which is featured on a local Montreal radio station (CKUT or n.10.as). We will host a listening party to listen back to a mixed/edited version of what the class has made ... live on the radio!

*possible if students have access to computers at the time that the workshop is offered
