As an artist, designer, and educator, I believe the act of creating has the ability to empower and create deeper empathy for one another. In my six years of experience in the field of education I have welcomed all levels of participants and, similarly to my own practice, I encourage a focus on process. In the past I have lead workshops in vastly different mediums and in each I made efforts of being accommodating to the groups needs and interests ensuring inclusion and comfort of the students.

Creative Approach and Experiences Offered

Through a discussion between myself and the teacher of the class, we will decide the best workshop and level for the student participants, each workshop will be tailored to the new groups needs, customized for the schools facilities, and the season. The students will work with the selected media and will explore themes of identity, community, or contemporary events dependent on the skill level and curriculum. For instance, if the teacher selects collage and/or zine making as the principal medium, the students will be introduced to the history of zine making and different methods of creation. On the other hand if the choice of workshop is painting or drawing related, we will do a introduction to colour theory and how to use colour within the pictorial frame. Each workshop will be unique based on students' needs, facilities and levels. As an educator and artist I use process and tactility of the material to create a deeper connection and ability of self-expression.

One-Day Event Description

Screenprinting 101

Following my previous experience offering a similar workshop through Sidetracks Screenprinting Collective I have become interested in facilitating screenprinting workshops again. This is a short, specialized workshop to introduce the participants to the basics of screenprinting. It will last between 3-4 hours and can be for 1 or two separate classes.
In Screenprinting 101, the participants will learn the process of one-colour screenprinting using the photo emulsion process.
- Step-by-step process of screenprinting your preferred/designed image onto your material of choice
- Basics of designing artwork
- How to expose images onto screens
- Your own small prints on paper or fabric you've brought with you.
Materials needed:
- Your own materials to print on: paper, fabric (e.g. t-shirts, tote bags) or wood to print on*
- Your own artwork to print or draw on the spot
- All other materials will be provided
For the one-day event for ArtistsInspire I would suggest breaking a class up into five groups to create a collaborative drawing/design. The design can be based on a theme of community, togetherness, or designs based on a current event (depending on the school's openness to this as it can be politically sensitive)."

0-30 students per group, two classes maximum

I will need access to running water as it is part of the process and can provide a hose myself.
