Other ELAN ArtEd LinksStories and News:
I started breaking (aka breakdance) in Kingston so I could break the shell that kept me safe yet isolated. In the 14 years since that decision, I have travelled across Canada and the world to battle, exchange, and learn. From that first step into the studio, I learned to step out of my ego. This passion to burst outside of oneself and be confident in one's vulnerability through the dance and the music is what I wish to share with my students.
Creative Approach and Experiences OfferedIn all my classes and workshops, I strive to show students how this dance and culture evolved from youth like them in the 1970s and 1980s, creating something out of nothing.
I walk them through the music, the feeling, how to create and improvise their own movements, all while giving them a frame and structure to keep them inspired, motivated, and focused. I have many different exercises for teaching them the elements of the dance - the physical vocabulary, style/creativity, musicality, confidence, and sharing in the cypher (dance circles).
I have faciliated one-off workshops, weekly workshops, as well as 5-day intensives with schools.
